Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a scientific methodology that examines all stages of a product from the acquisition of the natural resources that make up the product until they are disposed of. The assessment is carried out according to ISO 14040/44 series standards. A cradle-to-grave LCA study covering the whole life of a product can be carried out, or it can be carried out in different scopes for various purposes, such as cradle-to-door, door-to-door or door-to-grave.

LCA, which objectively demonstrates environmental performance, is used as a basic tool in improvement and eco-design studies. The basic steps of LCA within the framework of ISO 14040/44 standards are as follows:

1. Determination of Target and Scope: The functional unit, scope of the study, system boundaries, data quality requirements, study objective and calculation methodology are determined at this stage.
2. Inventory Analysis: This is the data collection process carried out within the framework of the objective and scope. Data must be obtained with scientific methodologies at the specified quality and detail.
3. Impact Assessment: Impact assessment is carried out within the framework of the determined calculation methodology.
4. Interpretation: Impact assessment results are interpreted and reported within the scope of ISO 14040/44 standard.
